Foundation & History
The Society was founded in 1971 at Manchester Royal Infirmary as the British Society of Neurosurgical Nurses (BSNN). In 1974 it became affiliated to the World Federation of Neurosurgical Nurses (now known as Neuroscience Nurses).
It expanded in 1976 to include Neuromedical nurses and thus changed its name to the British Society of Neuromedical & Neurosurgical Nurses(BSNNN). The Society became affiliated to the European Association of Neurosurgical Nurses (now known as Neuroscience |Nurses) at the inaugural congress in 1979.
The Society changed its name to the British Association of Neuroscience Nurses in 1998 (BANN).
Conferences are held every year which incorporate the Annual General Meeting. If you and your unit are interested in hosting a conference please contact the Executive Board.
